It’s National Inclusion Week (15-21 September 2025) and at Habinteg we are taking the opportunity to talk about how important inclusion is to us.
Habinteg was founded in 1970 to build and manage inclusive communities, with homes designed so that disabled people can easily live alongside nondisabled people as neighbours.
We now manage over 3300 homes for tenants up and down the country, and we’re proud to celebrate the rich diversity of customers and staff in every region and from a wide range of backgrounds.
Sadly, over the last few weeks we have seen national media reports that people of a variety of different backgrounds are feeling unwelcome, uncomfortable or even afraid when going about their daily lives.
Hope Not Hate
At Habinteg we want all tenants and staff to feel safe and welcome where they live and work, whatever makes them unique as individuals.
We believe that there is much more that unites us than divides us.
One organisation that is trying to make a difference to the way people feel at the moment is Hope Not Hate. We spotted that they have created a poster that you can download and print at home to put in your window.
It’s a simple way to let your neighbours know that you believe in inclusion – and it could help make your community feel that little bit safer and more welcoming for all. If you’d like a copy to display you can download it here.
What to do if you witness abusive behaviour
If you are personally affected by current events, please be assured that Habinteg has a zero tolerance policy for hate crime and any form of abuse motivated by a person’s background or other characteristics.
If you experience or witness any type of abusive behaviour where you live please report it using the Anti-social behaviour reporting form in the first instance. If you witness a hate crime in progress or if you're in immediate need of assistance, please phone 999.
Habinteg will continue to celebrate the wide diversity of our tenants and staff and we’re making plans to mark Black History Month in October. If you have a story to share about your family history or culture, please get in touch by emailing us at comms@habinteg.org.uk, we’d love to hear from you!
