Being an involved tenant at Habinteg is about much more than just giving feedback - it’s about helping us to shape your neighbourhood.
Tenant involvement gives you the chance to directly influence the services that impact your home and community.
By reviewing policies, sitting on a panel or taking part in inspections, you can help Habinteg deliver better services.
Getting involved means you act as a voice for your community, input to neighbourhood plans and can suggest improvements at your scheme, putting forward yours and your neighbours’’ ideas to make a real difference.
Roles for you
There are many ways you can get involved and make a real difference in your community.
As a Local Tenant Representative you would work closely with your scheme, attend Tenant Listening Events and help decide on a range of scheme improvements, including how the Tenant Led Improvement Budget (a pot of money to enable tenants to make improvements to their scheme) is spent.
Our Joint Strategy & Impact Group (JSIG) – which is made up of tenants, Board members and Habinteg staff - oversees how tenants influence activity across Habinteg, and ensures that the Board hears tenants’ views. The group has guided improvements in complaints handling, tenant communications, and ensures tenants’ voices reach the highest level.
"Being a representative and JSIG Chair has shown me how much impact tenants can have. It’s rewarding to see ideas from my community make real changes," said Cathy Smith, Chair of JSIG and a local tenant representative.
If our communications interest you, our Editorial Panel focuses on ensuring newsletters, leaflets, and online content are clear, helpful, and engaging. The panel also plays a key role in reviewing our Annual Report to Tenants and bi-annual newsletter Update, which provide tenants with information on their homes, services and our Tenant Satisfaction Measures.
And, if you’d like to take a closer look at our services, from repairs to how the tenant-led improvement budgets are used, you should consider our Scrutiny Panel. Their review of the repairs service led to faster repair times and improved communication with tenants.
Benefits of getting involved
Being an involved tenant has perks beyond shaping services. As well as getting to know other tenants and staff, you’ll be invited to attend events (we’ll cover your expenses) and you’ll take part in training and gain skills that you can add to your CV.
You’ll also be among the first tenants to know about changes to your scheme, and get hands-on experience influencing decisions that affect your home.
Importantly, you’ll help strengthen community spirit and make your neighbourhood a place everyone can be proud of.
Get started
There are many flexible ways to get involved, and anyone can take part there are no barriers, and we’ll support you every step of the way.
