Each household to receive £400 towards energy bills this winter

Help is at hand to help you weather the rising cost of energy bills this winter with the government giving every household £400 through its Energy Bills Support Scheme.

From October, you’ll notice a discount of £66 applied to your energy bill. This discount will rise to £67 in December and every month up to March 2023, bringing the total discount to £400.

Your energy supplier will write to you notifying you of the payment they will be making to your energy bills, how and when.

What do I need to do to get this payment?

You don’t need to do anything. Your energy supplier will apply the monthly discount directly to your bill.

If you pay by direct debit or have an electric meter key, this payment will be automatically deducted from your bill by your energy supplier.

If you have a pre-payment meter, you will receive a voucher  - by text, email or post - in the first week of October and you’ll need to follow instructions to redeem the monthly payment at your local PayPoint

Will everyone receive this payment?

The majority of households will receive this financial support through winter.

Please be aware that scammers may contact you posing as your energy supplier. They make ask for personal details including your bank details under the pretence of paying you the £400. Please DO NOT supply your bank details to anyone.

REMEMBER: Your energy supplier will apply the monthly discount directly to your bill.
