We know that winter is stretching budgets with higher heating bills, rising food costs, and unexpected changes in income making it harder to cover rent and household expenses.

The good news is that we’ve partnered with the UK’s leading Disabled People’s Organisation Disability Rights UK (DRUK) to provide expert benefits advice that will help you take control of your money.

All of our tenants can access this free, confidential support service.

How DRUK can help

Disability Rights UK works with disabled and non-disabled people, regardless of your employment status. Their trained advisors can check that you’re receiving all the benefits, grants, and discounts you’re entitled to.

Many Habinteg tenants have discovered they are missing important financial support simply because they aren’t aware of it.

Recent changes mean it’s especially important to get advice. The Department for Work & Pensions (DWP) has announced that as of April 2026:

• The two-child limit on Universal Credit and Child Tax Credit will be lifted. If you have three or more children, you may now be entitled to additional support. Contact DRUK to see what benefits you could claim. 
• Personal Independence Payments (PIP): Award lengths are being extended for new claimants. Currently, the time between PIP award reviews can be as short as nine months, with most people seeing no change at their review.

For new PIP claimants aged 25 and over, this period will be extended to a minimum of three years, with the potential to increase to five years at subsequent reviews if the claimant continues to be eligible.
