New lighting at Chingford scheme helps curb antisocial behaviour

You said we did stamp The tenants of Habinteg’s Morris Court scheme in Chingford, east London, are thankful for the much needed upgrade to their lighting system last month.

Morris Court is a small scheme situated between two large housing estates. Poor lighting on the scheme often attracted antisocial behaviour (ASB).

Tenants contacted the scheme’s neighbourhood staff to discuss the problem, and contractors were asked to visit Morris Court to investigate what could be done to improve the lighting.

The scheme has since had a total of eight LED lights installed in communal areas, at the entrance and in the car park. Two more lights are due to be upgraded in the near future.

Neighbourhood Manager, Andrea Bedward was instrumental in the lighting upgrade. She liaised with the contractor and provided regular progress updates to the scheme’s Tenant Representative.

Morris Court resident and Habinteg Tenant Representative Mike Murphy said: “We now have fully functioning lighting on the scheme, which makes such a difference. My life, and many other tenants’ lives, will be improved because of it, so a big thank you to Andrea Bedward, Tracy Roberts and the neighbourhood team."

Morris Court new light day and night Andrea said: “The new lighting has made a huge difference to the tenants and to the level of antisocial behaviour. Although we can’t totally eradicate such behaviour, I’m confident that the new lighting system will help to reduce such incidents.”
