Lion Close residents receive community grant for garden projects

Tenants at the Lion Close scheme in Lewisham, London, recently had their overgrown garden cleared with help from a £5,000 garden maintenance community grant.

The garden – normally the responsibility of residents – had become overgrown during the summer because none of the residents were able to tackle the weeds.

Tony Ajeh, the Neighbourhood Coordinator, worked with Candice Irving, the Neighbourhood Manager, and Nic Bungay, our Director of Housing and Assets to inspect the scheme to support the grant application.

Contractors Rock UK removed the weeds, cut the grass, cleared the rubbish, and tidied up the communal areas.

Future gardening projects

We will be carrying out further communal gardening projects in our Nunhead and Bermondsey schemes in the coming weeks.

These projects are being carried out as part of Habinteg’s well-being initiative to benefit tenants and enhance their sense of belonging and ownership.

If you are a resident in Lion Close, Bermondsey or Nunhead and have some questions regarding general maintenance of the scheme, please email Tony at tajeh@habinteg.org.uk or call 07793707430.
