Home swap opportunities available for tenants | Tenant news

Did you know that you can swap your home with another tenant within Habinteg or another housing association? Well, you can.

Habinteg signed up with the not-for-profit mutual housing exchange service, House Exchange, to give our tenants free access to register for a home swap.

This means you have more options if you want to move to another area or even if you want to swap with someone in the same street.

Mutual exchange

A mutual exchange is when a social housing tenant applies to swap homes with another social housing tenant if they both agree. They have the right to exchange with their landlord’s permission.

How does it work?

1. Firstly, you need to register on House Exchange.
2. Look for a tenant and home within the area you want to move to.
3. Once you’ve found a tenant to swap with, arrange to view each other’s properties.
4. Mutually agree that you are happy to swap.
5. Speak to our Neighbourhood team about your desired home swap, giving details of where the property is and the landlord.
6. Make sure the tenant you’re swapping with also has their landlord’s permission to swap homes.
    

What happens next?

Once we have made the necessary checks and approved the swap, you can agree move in dates and complete your exchange.
