Don’t face domestic abuse in silence, talk to us

We’re committed to helping tenants who may be experiencing domestic abuse, ensuring they feel safe, listened to and supported.

The abuse can take many forms and can affect anyone.

What is domestic abuse?

Domestic abuse is any incident or pattern of controlling, coercive, or threatening behaviour, violence, or abuse between people who are or have been intimate partners or family members.

It can include physical violence, emotional and psychological abuse, financial control, and even sexual abuse. The effects of domestic abuse can be profound, impacting not just the victim, but anyone living in the home.

It's important to know that domestic abuse can happen to a man or woman of any age gender or background.

Support from Habinteg

Reporting domestic abuse is an important step towards taking control of your life and stopping the abuse.

We treat every report seriously and handle all information with confidentiality and care.

We can connect you to specialist services like legal support, shelters, and counselling, and we’ll work with you to ensure your safety, which might include adding extra security to your home.

If you share a tenancy with the person abusing you, we’ll support you in taking the next steps, including working with the police or local authorities. Your safety and privacy are our priority.

Reporting abuse

If you or someone you know on your scheme feels that their safety is at risk or is in immediate danger, please contact the police by dialling 999.

Habinteg tenants can report domestic abuse, whether it's happening to you or someone else in your local community. Reports can be made in person, by phone, email or through a third party such as a police officer or a support organisation.

Non Habinteg tenants, who are concerned about a resident can also contact us.

If you’d prefer to talk to another organisation, your local authority has a safeguarding lead. You can raise a concern about abuse directly with them. Call the council’s main number and ask to speak to the safeguarding lead or search for ‘safeguarding’ on their website.

Organisations such as the National Domestic Violence Helpline and Victim Support are also available to provide support and guidance.

Please contact our Customer Services Team at Habinteg Direct on 0300 365 3100 for more advice or speak with your local Neighbourhood Team. Please also see our Domestic Abuse Policy at www.habinteg.org.uk/domestic-abuse.
