Habinteg receives new compliant ratings from Regulator of Social Housing following inspection.

The Regulator of Social Housing has announced today the results of its regulatory inspection of Habinteg Housing Association conducted over June and July 2025.

The Regulator awarded Habinteg compliant ratings in all areas, with a G1 Governance rating, a V2 Viability rating and a C2 rating for the new Consumer standards. Among the strengths highlighted in the regulatory judgement published on 24 September 2025 the Regulator noted:

- Habinteg’s commitment to treating tenants with fairness and respect, offering a wide range of opportunities for engagement and scrutiny which has a positive impact on the delivery of our services.

- The positive growth in satisfaction with complaint handling and Habinteg use of learning from complaints to further improve.

- How Habinteg works constructively with local partners to tackle anti-social behaviour, leading to a reduction in incidents and an increase in tenant satisfaction.

- Habinteg’s fair and transparent approach to lettings and allocations.

- Positive management of landlord health and safety and stock condition data by Habinteg.

Areas for improvement noted in the judgement focused on weaknesses in Habinteg’s repairs service leading to poor tenant satisfaction.

Awarding a G1 Governance rating, the Regulator noted strong Board understanding of Habinteg’s operating environment as well as robust management of risk in relation to the organisation’s strategy.

Habinteg's V2 viability rating reflects its ambition to build new homes without sacrificing the investment required to improve its existing homes.

Martin Warhurst, Habinteg’s Interim Chief Executive said:

“We are very pleased with the inspection outcome which highlights some valuable strengths and reflects the significant improvements we have been making over the last two years. We acknowledge that we have more to do to improve tenant satisfaction with repairs, and we are already well under way with a strategic transformation programme to help us achieve this. Being confirmed in our G1 rating, regained last autumn, is testament to the strength of the board’s leadership and support. This rating provides a strong foundation for a positive future for Habinteg and our unique work providing and promoting inclusively designed homes and neighbourhoods.”

Habinteg Chair Ellie Southwood said:

“The Board are very glad to have received this positive Regulatory assessment of Habinteg and particularly its G1 Governance rating. The inspection outcome is the result of the hard work and dedication of the Habinteg staff team who, working with tenants, have improved performance in many areas, and have responded to the new Consumer standards in a systematic and thorough way. We are building upon this work and will strengthen our governance even further in the coming years.

Tenant Cathy Smith, chair of Habinteg’s Joint Strategy and Impact Group said:

“I’m very pleased that the regulator’s judgement recognises the important role that tenants play in Habinteg, supporting the leadership to shape plans for improvement. It’s fantastic that they recognised the impact that tenant engagement has made on repairs, ASB handling and complaints communication. We work hard to make sure that tenants have opportunities to contribute their views, diverse perspectives and skills at every level and in every geographic region and we look forward now to working together for even better Habinteg services for all.”
