Get to know our surveyors: Meet Lewis Gordon

Find out what our new Repairs Surveyor, Lewis Gordon, who covers our Kent and South London area, does day to day and why he’d love his neighbour to be a (fictional) FBI-wanted criminal.

Can you describe what your job entails?

My job is to ensure that complex repairs are carried out where possible and to ensure that they are carried out with the best service and at the best cost.

How long have you been a surveyor?

I have been a surveyor for just under 12 months but have over 20 years’ experience in the property repairs industry. I joined the Habinteg team at the end of 2023.

How many homes do you visit on average per week?

It varies as I can look at properties where repairs are needed or I’m signing off works. I also need to set aside time to ensure that the administration is completed, which includes raising repairs, and paying contractors.

What’s the nicest thing that’s happened to you on your schemes?

In my second week at Habinteg I went to a scheme where the tenants had quite challenging feedback for me because they’d experienced delays repairs getting sorted. I spoke with the residents and went through their repairs. By the end of the following week, all their repairs had been completed, as promised, and their feedback has been very positive indeed.

If you were able to ask one thing of all the tenants in your region, what would it be?

Now that the surveyors’ team is stronger than ever with a new leadership, we will get repairs carried out and update you even if the news is not great.

We ask you to bear with us a little longer as we can already see the positive changes in such a short time, and this will shortly be seen by all. We also thank you for your continued support.

Which scheme in your region would you like to live on and why?

Polegate – as I love the seaside.

You’ve got a bonus holiday for being a great surveyor – how do you spend it?

With my family, making great memories.

Are you a dog or cat person?

Dog.

If you could choose, who would you most like to live next door to, and why?

Raymond Reddington – the character from the American crime thriller television series The Blacklist played by James Spader. His knowledge, wit and character (an international criminal wanted by the FBI) was just fascinating and addictive to watch.

Can you explain what the name Habinteg means?

Habinteg is Latin for habitat integrans or integrated housing.
