Habinteg Housing Association delivers major Solar PV programme in time for FIT deadline

Habinteg Housing Association have achieved what’s believed to be one of the largest solar PV installation programmes in the social housing sector, despite the short deadline imposed by October’s Feed In Tariff (FiT) announcement. By the new deadline of 12 December the association had fitted and registered panels at 840 properties in locations as widespread as Cornwall and Hull bringing their total Solar PV portfolio to 871 systems.

Habinteg welcomes Lords support for amendment to ‘bedroom tax’ plans

Habinteg welcomes last night’s House of Lords vote to amend Government welfare proposals which would have restricted the amount of Housing Benefit for people in social rented housing with one or more extra bedrooms.

The proposed amendment would allow tenants to receive full housing benefit if they have no more than one spare room or if no other suitable alternative accommodation is available.

Habinteg calls for efficiency drive to ensure best use of wheelchair standard homes

With only 22% of wheelchair standard properties in England let to wheelchair user households(1), Habinteg, the disability housing specialists, are calling for action to improve the use of much needed wheelchair standard properties.  In a new report Space to Move: Making efficient use of homes for wheelchair users, Habinteg looks at the issue in London to investigate the reasons for what it argues is an avoidable waste of resources.

Habinteg launches new Lifetime Homes Design Guide

The first Lifetime Homes Design Guide is now available to buy online through this website. It is based on the 16 Lifetime Homes Design criteria updated in 2010 and was published by Habinteg in partnership with BRE iHS on 4 November 2011. It is a practical guide to the Lifetime Homes Standard and looks at ways that buildings can have more flexibility built in, to enable simple adjustments to be made to cater for a change in a household’s needs.
