Habinteg welcomes fresh Lords support for amendment to ‘bedroom tax’ reform

Habinteg welcomes the latest House of Lords vote to amend Government welfare proposals which would have restricted Housing Benefit for people in social rented housing with one or more extra bedrooms. The proposed amendment would allow certain tenant groups, including disabled people,  to receive full housing benefit if they have no more than one spare room or if no other suitable alternative accommodation is available.

Habinteg supports National Housing Federation campaign for ‘bedroom tax’ amendment

According to the National Housing Federation, the ‘bedroom tax’ would affect 670,000 households in the UK. Two-thirds of these households would include a disabled person. Habinteg has signed up to the campaign to urge MPs to agree an amendment to the Welfare Reform Bill excluding households who would otherwise be unfairly penalised.
