Habinteg Chief Executive letter to Inside Housing (published 2 October) on the urgent need for more accessible homes and robust accessible housing standards in the UK.
Houses must be suitable for all
I warmly welcome the government's ambition to build one million new homes by 2020. This looks to be a strong response to the national housing crisis, a crisis felt more acutely by disabled and older people.
That is why we must ensure these new homes are fit for purpose, built to last and suitable for the demands of the greatest number of people.
Without priority to accessible housing, we risk letting disabled people down and creating a further accessible housing crisis in an attempt to solve current problems.
