Over the last few months Habinteg has co-ordinated a review of the Lifetime Homes criteria and the consultation is available now.
This review has involved talking to a cross-section of experts, including developers, architects, access consultants, planners, occupational therapists and policymakers.
The feedback we received identified some proposed changes to the Lifetime Homes criteria, in order to make them easier to understand and to enable them to be adopted by the full range of housing developers. A number of the criteria have therefore been revised and the changes are now published for consultation, in parallel with the wider consultation on the Code for Sustainable Homes.
This Lifetime Homes consultation exercise is separate from the Communities and Local Government (CLG) consultation on the Code for Sustainable Homes.
Habinteg is disappointed that the Government does not now propose to proceed with its commitment to make the Lifetime Homes standard mandatory at Code Level 4 in 2010. Habinteg will submit a full and considered response to the Code consultation in due course.
For a copy of the consultation please go to the Lifetime Homes website.
