New rules on free TV license
In August, the BBC changed its rules regarding free TV licenses. Before, all over 75s could receive a free TV license but now, only those who are 75 and receiving Pension Credit are eligible. It doesn’t matter how little you receive; anyone who receives the benefit is entitled to the free license.
Another change to be aware of is that you need to apply for the free license online. You can do this at www.tvlicensing.co.uk/over75 where you will also find out other useful information bout the free TV license.
If you do not receive Pension Credit, but think you may be eligible, you can find out more at www.gov.uk/pension-credit, or you can make a claim online or by calling 0800 99 1234.
New payment for people self-isolating in highest risk areas
Last week, the Government announced a new payment for people on low incomes in areas with high rates of COVID-19, who need to self-isolate and can’t work from home. Payments of up to £182 will be made to people who have tested positive for COVID-19 and their contacts. The scheme will start in Blackburn with Darwen, Pendle, and Oldham but will branch in areas with a spike of COVID-19 cases. You can find out more about the initiative here.
