Habinteg is a housing provider with more than 30 years experience and expertise in designing, building and managing accessible homes.
We continue to develop ever more innovative designs and, in partnership with local councils and public and private developers, build and run inclusive schemes across England, from Tyneside in the north-east to Cornwall in the south-west.
Our research and policy departments identify and highlight best practice in the housing and disability field and encourage the housing sector to show a greater awareness of issues relating to disabled people.
Although we specialise in disability, the Housing Corporation classifies us as a general needs housing association and most of our tenants are not disabled.
The Housing Corporation acknowledged the quality of our work in its 2002 inspection report: "Habinteg homes are built to a high standard with high quality accommodation for disabled people." It also praised the responsive and effective services we provide our tenants.
The Housing Corporation further endorsed our work in its July 2004 assessment, awarding us the top score of a green traffic light in each of the four performance areas of financial viability, governance, management and development.
But we do not just measure ourselves by inspections and assessments. We will only judge ourselves to be truly successful if we can persuade our colleagues in the housing sector, and the general public, to accept and endorse our founding principles of inclusion and integration.
Our work will not be done until we see a society of truly universal housing for everyone.
