The Habinteg Disability Housing Service (DHS) is available to disabled people and their families in Hull and East Riding. It provides free, independent and confidential advice on housing and related services, such as:
• Applying for Council Housing
• Housing Association accommodation
• Private rented accommodation
• Buying your own home or shared ownership accommodation
• How to apply for aids and adaptations
• Sign posting to other advice agencies for financial and benefit advice
• Assist in getting the views of disabled people over to service planners
• One Stop Shop
The Habinteg Disability Housing Service also provides information and training for housing providers, social services and voluntary agency staff to assist them in meeting the full housing needs of their clients, including disability equality and awareness training. More information on Disability Equality can also be found at Habinteg’s Disability Equality Centre website.
For people located outside the Hull and East Riding area looking for housing information and advice, please be aware that specific and detailed disability housing advice can be difficult to come by and that organisations can often only cover a specific region. Try the National Centre for Independent Living (NCIL) who list Centres for Independent Living across the country. You can also download our DHS information leaflets here.
The Habinteg Disability Housing Service works in partnership with Choices and Rights Disability Coalition, a Centre for Independent Living (CIL) providing key services to disabled people in Hull and the East Riding of Yorkshire.
